About Our 5-Year-Olds Kindergarten

At Star Choice Academy, our program is developed using a combination of the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards for Kindergarten and through our targeted-based curriculum program, created to give your 5-year-old a well-rounded learning experience to help students develop mastery in the four modalities and other subject areas. We ensure each student succeeds academically in kindergarten and beyond while receiving positive and nurturing care.

 

Strict health and safety regulations will be observed.

 

You can relax knowing that your kindergartener is in a safe and healthy environment while they’re at our Academy. Based on CDC recommendations, our improved health and cleaning program is intended to reduce coronavirus transmission.

 

Our program is designed through the targeted instructional curriculum-based model to provide students with a whole school experience while providing a safe learning and enriching environment.

Cognitive Development

    • Understands the concept of same and different

Language Arts

Infant Activities

Students will develop critical thinking skills through our curriculum-based instruction to demonstrate an understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds, organization and basic features of print. Able to read emergent text with adequate accuracy to support comprehension. Know and apply phonemic and word analysis skills in decoding and encoding words. Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse peers and teachers in large and small groups and during play. Explore and use new vocabulary and multiple words and phrases in authentic experiences and conversation.

Mathematics

Infant Activities

Students will be able to understand the relationship of numbers, count to answer questions (how many). They will identify whether number of objects in one group is less than, greater than or equal to another group. Solve and represent addition and subtraction problems, use objects, finger, mental images and equation to help solve problems. Correctly name geometric figures and demonstrate problem solving skills and analysis to approach each math problems.

Science

Infant Activities

Science helps young children develop essential life skills, including the ability to use observation to describe patterns of plants, animals, humans, and their desire to survive. Students will ask questions, use tools, observe local weather conditions to communicate its pattern over time. Determine cause and effects, analyze and interpret data, make claims, use evidence, construct explanations and investigations, ask and answer questions, and predict outcome with scientific questioning.

Social Studies

Infant Activities

Social studies is an essential part of the learning curriculum, since students begin to develop experiences that will shape their attitudes as citizens and build relationships in their school, classroom, home and their community. In social studies students will gather, interpret, and use evidence, chronological reasoning, and causation; they will also use comparison and contextualization, and use geographic reasoning to identify patterns and more.

Visual Arts

Infant Activities

Students are always excited about expressing themselves artistically, so they will be engaged in exploration and imaginative play with materials, collaborate in creative artmaking, and with guidance share observation and compare artwork. They will also explore the world by using descriptive words and artistic work.
Focus: Reading and writing skills begin to blossom for 5-year-olds.
On My Way immerses your child in rich, high-quality printed content, introducing them to age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction. At age 5, children are starting to recognize common sight words, identify upper and lowercase letters and connect sounds to specific letters. Their vocabulary is rapidly expanding and writing moves from combining letters to making words to combining words to create simple sentences.

Focus: Using a variety of resources and approaches to enhance mathematical thinking.

Our teachers use innovative methods integrated throughout the day to engage your 5-year-old in math. It might entail using manipulatives to solve problems in a small- or large-group activity, or introducing a math lesson to a playful learning session. Our teachers are always looking for fun ways to turn everyday tasks into an effective opportunity to strengthen math skills.
